Blog 1

Hello, and welcome to Butterfly Dawn.

This is the first of a series of blogs in which I’ll be sharing my own experiences with others who may be finding motherhood to be a little different than expected. Together, we’ll explore the challenges and look at ways to restore confidence, self-worth and joy to our lives.

My underlying drive has always been to support others. I remember that being the case from a very young age. A few years ago, I discovered just how early that passion really started.

I remember wanting to support my mother with my sister when I was somewhere between the ages of 3 and 4 years old. My sister was having a convulsion and I wanted to help my mum. I remember being told to go away. As an adult, I get it. I understand how difficult it would have been for my mother (an absolutely amazing woman) to take care of a baby who was convulsing while teaching a 3 or 4-year old how to help.

This led me down a path that, for a child, seemed perfectly reasonable. As an adult, however, I recognise that my subsequent behaviour was actually destructive. This is not the fault of my mother, it was simply a decision I made as a child.

One thing I have learned, through all my experiences and study, is that I am unable to change the decisions my children make. I can be there for them, support them with the consequences of those decision, and help them to change bad experiences into alternatives that are resourceful and brings them happiness.

When I discovered of the meaning I took from that moment with my mother and sister, the words “Helpful Harry” sprang to mind. These words have been in me forever, and now I know both where the words come from, and how they now feature in my life.

Now that I have progressed down the path of my life experiences and have put some time into training, I know that I can support mothers in their own journeys of self-discovery. In this blog, I’ll be sharing my story because I believe that sharing our stories helps others. This is how we can support one another and find our place of peace.
